Can you believe we finally repaired the flood-ravaged ponds this year, only to have an historic drought leave them empty? No worries! we still managed to host three joyful Dog Parties (with shuttle service to improve accessibility), our annual Labor of Love Volunteer Day, ten free Levitt AMP St. Johnsbury music concerts, and our first ever Creativity Unleashed student art exhibition, showcasing the work of young artists inspired by Dog Mountain and Stephen Huneck!

Drought aside, we finished major infrastructure repairs to roads, culverts, parking areas, and ponds devastated by 2024’s back-to-back floods, and construction is well underway on our trail system overhaul, making Dog Mountain’s hiking trails safer, more sustainable, and more accessible than ever! The Blue Trail is nearly finished, with completion of the Yellow Trail and some additional improvements slated for 2026.

We enjoyed media visits this year from Associated Press and Washington Post writers, resulting in coverage ranging from Vermont Public to NBC Boston. We were also awarded a prestigious Historic Artist Homes and Studios designation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, recognizing Stephen Huneck’s artistic legacy and the vibrant community that has grown around his work.

Next, we’re planning a beautification and restoration campaign for buildings, including the Gallery and barn, damaged by weather exposure and back-to-back floods. With some TLC including rot repair and some exterior paint, the beloved structures on our campus will be as vibrant as the community that enjoys them!
