Creativity Unleashed: A Student Art Exhibit

Over Memorial Day weekend, the Stephen Huneck Gallery at Dog Mountain transformed into a joyful celebration of young creativity with the inaugural Creativity Unleashed! Student Art Exhibit.

The gallery walls came alive with over 70 works of art by K–8 students from across the Northeast Kingdom, who responded to the prompt: “What do pets mean to us?” Before picking up their brushes and pencils, students visited Dog Mountain to explore the grounds, tour the Stephen Huneck Gallery, and experience the Dog Chapel firsthand. They took in Stephen’s artwork, reflected on his message that “Dogs Make People Human,” and allowed the spirit of the mountain to spark their imaginations.

The exhibit opened with a heartwarming reception on May 22, welcoming families, teachers, community members, and a few curious pups to take in the vibrant display. The atmosphere was electric with excitement and pride as young artists shared their work with beaming parents and new admirers. Our guest book quickly filled with joyful reactions—one visitor captured the energy perfectly with: “Kids—amazing! Beautiful and amazing!” Another simply wrote, “Lots of talent! Thank you all for sharing.”

Both Stephen and Gwen Huneck believed in the healing and connective power of “dogs, nature, love, and art.” This new annual exhibit adds a joyful new layer to that legacy, inviting the next generation to experience Dog Mountain not just as a sanctuary, but as a creative muse. We’re already looking forward to seeing what these budding artists dream up next year when their creativity is once again unleashed!
